Whether you want to earn more money, garner more respect from your peers, or progress more rapidly in your profession, the same advice applies: Build your self-confidence.
Many engineers I know were drawn to engineering in the first place because they're smart, creative, and great at problem-solving. They want to make a difference in the world, and enjoy building and working with complex systems. They love the intellectual challenge.
Unfortunately, they're not always so confident when it comes to their people-skills. If you're currently more comfortable in front of a screen than you are in front of an audience, it's time to build your self-confidence. The guys on The Big Bang Theory are hilarious, but their lack of real social skills and true self-confidence undermines them every time. If you want to build confidence, check out the Confident Man e-book. |

Imagine the impact you'll have in your next Engineering job interview, when the interviewer asks you a technical, management or teamwork question on some aspect of Engineering and you reply: "Actually, I wrote an article about that on GreatEngineering.Net... Let me explain...".
When your prospective new employer hits the site and sees your name in lights, you'll jump straight to the top of their preferred candidate list and be ready to name your price. Nothing builds credibility like having an online presence demonstrating your expertise in the area that an employer is looking for. Put links to your articles in your resume and employers will know straight away that you're a demonstrated expert in your chosen field.
I'm particularly interested in Engineers from the Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering disciplines who are interested in writing short, punchy, quality articles for this website. In return, you'll get to see your name in lights and can use the site as a calling card to demonstrate that you are a leader in your particular field. If you're interested, please contact me today.
